LobsterFest finale: Grand prize winner is named, and you’ll never guess who!

Lobster Crawl 2014 passports at the ready!
Lobster Crawl 2014 passports at the ready!

At around 8 p.m. on Saturday in Central Park, the San Pedro LobsterFest committee pulled the winning ticket for the Grand Prize, consisting of what seems like month’s worth of fun and adventure in Belize.

They read the winning number a few times but nobody stepped forward to claim the spoils.

That’s because my wife, Rose Alcantara, had left the huge block party at 7:45 p.m.

She wasn’t feeling well.

Rose got the call this afternoon. And trust me, she’s feeling better now.

During all of last week, Lobster Crawl participants showed up every day at a different San Pedro venue — like Seaduce and Belize Chocolate Co. — and every evening at a restaurant — like Fido’s and Pineapple’s — to get a “stamp” in their passport.

Yes, I bought the official LobsterFest T-shirt. Couldn't resist this cool image. And it is my first white T-shirt. Of what importance that is, I have no idea.

It worked out well for us because most of the participating spots were already on our way home from morning yoga or evening Pilates classes at Zen Arcade. It was fun. We ran into friends along the way most the time and we saw places that weren’t yet on our radar.

On Thursday practically everyone we know in our Tres Cocos neighborhood showed up at Wayo’s Beachside Beernet on Boca del Rio and it turned into an afternoon-long block party.

Here are some of the prizes listed on the LobsterFest Facebook page:

“Wow!! More prizes have been added to the Grand Prize!”

Plus, I don’t think I’ll have to wonder about what I’ll be writing about on this blog!

And — wait! — maybe now our kids will start planning their first trips to Belize ….  Are you reading this Jon and Quinn, Caira, Brendan and Cami, Ryan, Chris and Katie??????

It couldn’t happen to a better couple, Bob and Rose, except of course us! Congrats, you have already put so much into this community, karma found you right away!
Tamara and Dennis, your Tres Coco’s neighbors (and future LOOTB San Pedro chapter).

Bob, can you and Rose adopt me…I’ll be right down? Oh yeah, I’m older than you. Congrats to Rose! It should take you two 6 months to get through all the “goodies”, just in time for our visit. Have a great time using your prizes. I’m impressed!

Hey, Rob! Some interesting days ahead, for sure. I’m thrilled for Rose because her move here came at some sacrifice — her own business, longtime friends and neighbors. Just kind of a sign for her that this was the right move, I think!

Thanks, Jim! Give a wave as you walk off the island! I’m waiting for the plumber to come back and finish some big repairs here — kind of an up and down week: fantasy win for Rose, leaking water pipes for me!

Rose said she likes the idea of a “staycation in Belize,” Julia! Alas, we must leave for a wedding in England in July then a few weeks in the Bay Area, including Fairfield of course!
